I started working on God Playing Dice way back in 2010 while we were still in Charlotte. This was the first of my ‘The Other Is Looking In On You” series and it’s very close to my heart because it single-handedly inspired a new direction for my work. Before this piece I’d been working primarily on square boards, so the 11×14 landscape format was a little bit out of my comfort zone. This was also the first piece to include my tiny cut out figures

The first three images are from my Charlotte (bedroom) studio. This piece started as a real mess–in a good, fun way. Lots of collage layers and thin paint and funny colored pencil marks. Keep it loose:

These two are close up details of the finished piece. I liked the first one so much that I gave it its own subtitle: “Pyramid Building Ritual”.
