First Look @ Big Prints

February 11th, 2010 by brandi

We finally had a sunny day to take pictures of the new prints.  Here’s the 12×12″ print side-by-side with the 7×7″, for comparison.

And another 12×12″  YAY!

Inner Space

February 2nd, 2010 by brandi

So, three huge developments:

  1. Just relaunched the site with a totally new look and feel.  Robert is a genius.  All things Paper Whistle are now streamlined, unified, and clean–I like it!  I’ll be able to keep things updated very easily.  I promise to blog more and stuff.
  2. Nine new prints available from my brand new series, Inner Space.
  3. Finally, bigger prints available, 12×12″ ’s—–WOO-HOO!  Y’all have been asking for larger prints since I introduced them about a year ago.   All of the new prints from Inner Space are based on original mixed media works of art that are 12×12″.  These new large prints match the exact size of the original, almost perfectly mimic the color and detail.   Sexy.  They’re sexy, I promise.  I’ll have even more pictures soon!

Pie In The Sky You Know How I Feel

November 17th, 2009 by brandi

I’m excited to announce my first international solo show.  Lots of my collages are on display at Preteen gallery in Hermosillo, Mexico.  All pictures are courtesy of the gallery.  At the opening they celebrated Preteen’s first anniversary–and congratulations–they’ve had a year full of truly amazing exhibits.  Visit Preteen to see more.  Quoted from their site:

PRETEEN IS PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE PIE IN THE SKY YOU KNOW HOW I FEEL; A NEW SOLO SHOW BY NORTH CAROLINA-BASED ARTIST BRANDI STRICKLAND. STRICKLAND’S MINIMAL GRAPHIC ASSEMBLAGES RESEMBLE THOSE OF HANNAH HÖCH IN THAT THEY SERVE AS DOCUMENTS OF DAY TO DAY EPHEMERA AND THAT THEY PORE OVER FEMALE SUBJECTIVITY IN A SCANT AND DELICATE MANNER. ALSO, THEY SCRUTINIZE THE POWER STRUCTURES THAT SHAPE THE VISUAL OUTCOMES OF GEOGRAPHY, TOPOGRAPHY AND MATHEMATICS. THE HUMAN BODY AND NATURE ARE REPRESENTED IN AN OFTEN FRAGMENTED, NEBULOUS AND NOSTALGIC WAY. TEXT BECOMES A MERE ORNAMENTAL COMPONENT MORE THAN A LINGUISTIC OR POETIC SIGNIFIER. HER METHOD OF WORK ALLOWS HER COLLAGE PIECES TO DEVELOP INTO AN ODDLY APOLITICAL ACCOUNT OF QUOTIDIAN LIFE.
